This program sharpens teachers’ professional skills and provides opportunities to participate in cross-cultural activities at host schools and in U.S. communities. Why you should consider teaching in the USA

The Exchange Teacher Program creates friendships and connections across borders, as well as opportunities to increase the number of cultural exchanges and school partnerships worldwide. Exchange Teachers enhance American and foreign students’ and host communities’ knowledge of each other’s customs and teaching approaches. The BridgeUSA Teacher Exchange program helps program participants sharpen their teaching skills in their respective subject fields.

When you are hired J-1 teacher you will be introduced to the

friends and build long lasting professional relationships. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to share your culture with Americans.

teacher that will further your development as a educator.

After your time as a teacher in the U.S., you will have unique experience that you can share with your home country.

Qualifications

Requirements to qualify toteach in the USA

Math Tutor
  • Possess, at a minimum, a degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree in either education or the academic subject field in which you intend to teach

  • Meet the qualifications for teaching at the primary, including pre-kindergarten, or secondary levels in schools in your home country; be working as a teacher in your home country at the time of application; and have at least two years of full-time teaching experience; demonstrate English proficiency. 


or 
 

  • Not be working as a teacher in your home country at the time of application, but otherwise meet the qualifications for teaching at the primary (including pre-kindergarten) or secondary levels in schools in your home country

  • Have had at least two years of full-time teaching experience within the past eight years and Within 12 months of your application submission date for the program, have completed an advanced degree (beyond a degree equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s Degree) in education or in an academic subject matter that you intend to teach or that is directly related to your teaching subject field.

Home Edition): minimum required test scores for each section are: Reading –

IELTS: International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Band score of 5.5 or higher

Cambridge English Assessment (CEA): Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR): scale test result of B2 or higher

EF Standard English Test (50-mn version): result of B2 or higher COMBINED with ITEP conversation test
OR:
EF Standard English Test (50-mn version): result of B2 or higher COMBINED with IH English Language Level Test (score: Mid Intermediate, B1.2 or higher)

ACTFL: Intermediate High or higher

The Process

The Process

Understand the entireprocess of becoming a J-1Visa Teacher

Leaf Pattern

There are eight stages in the J-1 Teacher Process

STEP 1: Submit your
resume and pay the
token deposit

The process begins by a brief evaluation of your profile and match for requirements based on information you share in the resume/CV.

STEP 2: Collect your
documents

Once your profile matches the requirements, we will collect your documents - bachelor’s degree certificate (transcripts are not required), English proficiency proof, passport copy

STEP 3: School to
candidate matching

At this stage, we will work on finding a job offer at a school that matches your profile. The school will be sent all your details and if interested, the school will ask for an interview.

STEP 4: Interview
and job offer

An interview will be scheduled and if the school is interested in hiring you as a teacher, a job offer will be extended.

STEP 5: Accept or
Reject the offer

Once a job offer is made, you can accept or reject the offer. If you reject the offer, we will work on finding you another school that matches your profile for a total of two searches.

STEP 6: After
accepting the offer

Upon program approval, the relevant government form (DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility) allowing you to apply for the J-1 Visa. Before the issuance of the DS-2019, all pending fees much be cleared.

STEP 7: Apply for J-1 visa interview

You must now pay the SEVIS fee, complete the DS-160 form and pay the visa fees. The interview will be scheduled as per availability at all U.S. Consulates and Embassy.

STEP 8: Approval
and departure

After your J-1 visa has been approved, you begin your preparation for departure to the United States to begin working as a teacher.

March-April: Job offers
May- July: Visa interviews
July- August: Arrivals

About Dependents

Can I take my spouse and children?

Yes, you can!

Family members eligible for J-2 Dependent Visa sponsorship include a legal spouse and dependent children under the age of 21. We strongly recommend that your family join you after you have settled comfortably into your new environment.

 

Can my spouse legally work in the U.S.? 

Yes. If your spouse is planning to seek employment in the U.S. they must submit a work authorization application to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

 

Can my children attend school in the U.S.? 

Yes. Your children will be eligible to attend school in the U.S.
